Bruse the Moose was plodding along, going about his business on the lovely sunday morning when all of a sudden, his stomach started growling. He was hungry! *1 A loud Brrrrr sounded from his brown tummy. He was VERY hungry indeed. It was time to look for something to eat. So the large brown moose *2 plodded along. His legs brushed past the bushes that covered the forest floor. His large muzzle was snuffling along at tree bark and at leaves. He was looking for something tasty to eat. Surely there was something to eat in this dense forest He’d found himself in. There was always something to eat. that was comforting constant. He could hear the sounds of birds chirping in the canopy above him. There were rustling noises in the bushes in the distance. The wind blew through the trees and the leaves made a rustling noise. The forest was practically bustling with activity today. A perfect kind of day. There were tasty foods in sight and in smell. some berries, some sappy bark. But none of it really piqued the moose’s interest. It was all food that he ate day in and day out. Not that it wasn’t good it was just… plain and boring. Thing special. But then his nostrils picked up the smell of something wonderful. It smelled sweet, and sugary.. and warm. something like he hadn’t had before. Bruse picked up his pace and hurried after the aroma as fast as a moose his size could. He lumbered through the forest with as much agility and grace as a hungry moose could. His large, dark-colored hooves made divots in the soft earth under his weight which left a trail for anyone to follow. Bruse was too driven by his stomach and that wonderful smell to really care. He passed by many delightful foods in his pursuit of the smell that has his nostrils flaring to capture it all. He passed by berry bushes. He pasted by sweet new leaves on a budding young tree. He passed by acorns and chestnuts fallen on the ground. He passed by sap-soaked bark. He didn’t know just how long he went for but distance wasn’t on his mind. He hurried through the woods, nearly squishing a small family of mice in the process until he ran out of woods to run through and came to a clearing. In the middle of this clearing was a little homestead. There was a nice little cabin in the middle surrounded by a wooden fence. There was a path up to the house made up of little rocks sunk into the grassy front lawn. The small chimney on the house had smoke coming out of it. *3 The big creature lifted his large, brown head *4 to the sky and took a big sniff of air. the sweet smell was strong as it entered his nose. Sure enough. This was where the lovely smell was coming from. He walked over through the little gap in the fence and onto the porch of the house without a second thought. The wood creaked under his weight. The smell of the food drowned out everything else to him. Sights, sounds and any other smells all paled in comparison to the pie in the window enticing anyone to come near for a taste. In the window of the house sat the most beautiful looking pie brush had ever seen! “Oh my!” He said and licked his lips. Bruse opened his mouth and extended his neck out. Just a tiny taste wouldn’t hurt. It would barely even be missed on the pie. Of that, he was certain. Closer and closer he got to the pie… His muzzle got close enough to feel jsut how warm it was. It must have just recently come out of the oven. ohhh it was going to be so good! And then BAM! The end of a broom hit him on his strong antlers. “You get away from my pie, you naughty moose!” Hollered a woman. Bruse was chased off the porch and back down the path. “And don’t you do that again!” The woman shouted as Bruse hurried off into the woods. *5 Well… He would just have to find something else to eat for breakfast. Maybe he would have better luck next time.
